On Tuesday night, the Lagos State Police Command issued a statement regarding the detention of the controversial singer Azeez Fashola, who is widely known as Naira Marley. This arrest is related to the controversial death of his former record label artist, Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad. Benjamin Hundeyin, the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, officially confirmed this development, explaining that "Azeez Fashola, also recognized as Naira Marley, has been taken into custody for the purpose of questioning and conducting additional investigative procedures."
In a tweet posted earlier on Tuesday night, Naira Marley himself announced his return to Lagos with the intent of cooperating in the ongoing investigation into Mohbad's passing. He expressed his willingness to meet with the police and stated, "I want to inform you that I've just arrived back in Lagos, Nigeria to assist the authorities with their ongoing investigation. It's crucial for me to play my part in seeking justice for Imole. I will be meeting with the police in the hopes of uncovering the truth and ensuring that justice prevails."
Previously, the police had summoned Naira Marley and the controversial music promoter known as Balongun Eletu, also identified as Sam Larry (who is currently in police custody), for questioning regarding the circumstances surrounding Mohbad's death.
The police had also verified that the autopsy conducted on Mohbad had been completed the previous week, with the results still pending. During an exclusive interview with our correspondent, the police spokesperson stated, "The autopsy procedure has been concluded, and we are awaiting the results." This development followed the collaborative efforts of the Nigeria Police Force and health officials in the exhumation of Mohbad's body.
It's worth noting that the police have also detained the nurse who allegedly administered an injection to the deceased singer before his death on Tuesday, September 12. A coroner's enquiry into Mohbad's death began at the Lagos State Magistrate's Court in Ikorodu last Friday.
