No Ghanaian Artiste Has Made It like Asake; Not Even Me – Shatta Wale

Renowned Ghanaian Reggae/Dancehall sensation, Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, recently expressed his viewpoint that Nigerian vocalist Asake surpasses all musicians in Ghana, including himself, in terms of prominence and achievement.

During a discussion with Serwaa Amihere on the X-Space show on August 23, 2023, Shatta Wale, famous for his track "Taking Over," conveyed that Asake, recognized for his chart-topping hits like "Lonely at the Top," "Amapiano," and "Bandana," has achieved international prominence due to his affinity for Olamide. The latter is the head of the YBNL record label, to which Asake is signed.

In Shatta Wale's controversial words, "No Ghanaian artist comes close to Asake's level of success. Do not even raise the topic of Asake. Not me [Shatta Wale], not anyone else—so do not even bring it up. Do not mention Asake's name." Shatta Wale's statement has triggered passionate discussions within the Ghanaian music sphere, with certain fans expressing disagreement.
