Singer-songwriter Fameye recently expressed that he values a Ghana Music Awards trophy more than a Grammy or BET award. Speaking on Accra 100.5 FM’s midmorning show, hosted by Nana Romeo, Fameye explained that his perspective has changed over time. He used to look up to Grammy and BET awards as the ultimate recognition, as highlighted in his song "Destiny." However, after witnessing acclaimed Highlife and Hiplife legends like Kwaadee, Ofori Amponsah, and Kwaw Kese receive Ghana Music Awards, Fameye now appreciates them more.
The experiences of seeing these respected artists be honored motivated Fameye to pursue his own vision. He believes that Ghana is his home and where he receives the most love and support from his fans. These fans are the ones who made him who he is today, and with their backing, he can achieve his dreams. Fameye also mentioned that it would be a proud moment for him and other Ghanaian artists if the Recording Academy, organizers of the Grammys, visited Ghana and recognized their local awards and popularity.
While Fameye clarified that he is not opposed to winning a Grammy or BET award, he emphasized that the Ghana Music Awards hold more significance to him. He believes that winning these awards gives his fans the confidence and courage to stand up for him, even in the face of criticism. Additionally, he stated that these awards make his fans proud to support him.
In conclusion, Fameye emphasized that he is satisfied with his career, whether or not he wins a Grammy. What matters most to him is winning Ghana Music Awards. As a lyrical genius, Fameye received the Songwriter of the Year award at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards in 2022 for his hit song "Praise."
