Nogokpo Is A Town Not A Shrine, Wakayna Educate Listeners Through His Song ‘Nogokpo’. (VIDEO)

The artist known for the hit song "Nogokpo" aims to alter the prevailing narrative and perception associated with his hometown using his popular track. In the past, there have been instances where the town and its inhabitants have been unfairly labeled as malevolent and wicked. This unwarranted characterization has led people to feel apprehensive about engaging with or conducting business in the area. The situation escalated when Bishop Agyin Asare reiterated these negative notions earlier this year, further tarnishing the town's image.

The artist's objective is to present an accurate and positive portrayal of Nogokpo, shedding light on its people, culture, traditions, and addressing any misinformation that may have circulated. He took the time to clarify the meaning of "Nogokpo," which translates to "Will you stay peacefully?" in the Ewe language. This phrase is directed at visitors, highlighting the peaceful nature of the town's residents. The locals are characterized by their strong principles, commitment to peace, and genuine connection to their African heritage. Unfortunately, due to these admirable traits, misconceptions have arisen that cast them in a negative light. It's important to note that "Nogokpo" is merely the name of the town and not a deity, as clarified by the artist. The town is home to a diverse community of Muslims, Christians, and people from various cultural backgrounds. Like any organized group, there are established rules and regulations within Nogokpo that carry consequences when violated. This is a standard feature of the town and does not define its inhabitants as evil.

The song itself was actually recorded in 2020, but the artist needed the right motivation to release it. He had put other projects on hold until Bishop Agyin Asare's negative comment provided the impetus to address the public's misconceptions. This marked a turning point, prompting the artist to share the song as a means to enlighten and dispel the negative stereotypes associated with his tribe. Thus far, the song has proven effective in its mission. It has succeeded in altering people's perceptions and dispelling preconceived notions about the artist's tribe. The artist takes immense pride in being a native son who has taken a proactive stance in rectifying this situation. Watch full interview here (VIDEO)
