Billionaire businessman Femi Otedola opened up about his experience with a depressive episode during at Akin Akinfemiwa's 50th birthday celebration in London. According to a report by Nairametrics, Otedola credited Akinfemiwa for helping him overcome the depression that followed his financial loss.

Otedola described their relationship as a result of destiny and recounted how they first connected through a mutual friend who worked at Oando. Otedola mentioned how Akinfemiwa came to his aid when he was in need of a capable oil trader for his company, Fine Shade Energy, which he had established in London. The businessman revealed that he considered suicide after losing $480 million in the diesel market in 2008 but the thought of his family, particularly his wife Nana and their children, deterred him.

To overcome his challenges, the father of three made the decision to remove himself from the position of CEO and appointed Akinfemiwa as the CEO of the London office, offering him a 1% stake in the business. Impressed by Akinfemiwa's capabilities, Otedola later made him the CEO of Zenon Oil and subsequently the CEO of African Petroleum.

Otedola expressed admiration for how his new business partner was able to turn the company around, highlighting his success in overcoming the obstacles they faced.
