The DJ is the first at an event and the always the last to leave, but mostly forgotten when food and drink is being
shared at a typical Ghanaian event. We go hard on them when there is a faulty sound,
total silence due to technical problems and only remember them when we want to make
a toast, request or a dedicate a particular song.
At Parties, Weddings, Funerals, engagements, Night Clubs, Seminars,
Radio and TV shows, whatever the occasion, a DJ is always there to bring life to
the event. This clearly states the importance of a Disc Jockey or DJ as affectionately
called by many across the globe.
In Ghana, a greater portion of DJs belong to DJs Union Of Ghana (DJUGA),
an umbrella body for DJs in Ghana with an objective to secure the complete
organization of all DJs for their mutual protection and advancement. Currently,
DJs have their own Awards Scheme known as the Ghana DJ Awards. This award scheme
is the brainchild of Merqury Quaye, a renowned DJ and radio presenter in Ghana.
The award scheme has been rewarding DJs in Ghana and other parts of the
world for the outstanding contribution and hard work in the profession for years
now. This is their 10th year awarding DJs
for their creativity. Organized by Merqury Republic, this year’s Ghana
DJ Awards is themed 'The Greatest'
which promises to be a very special edition. In preparation for the main event,
the 3rd edition of its annual Conference Ghana DJ Clinic was held with speakers like Kobby
Spikey, Master Que, Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu, Bessa Simons, George Britton, among
other greats.
This years Biggest DJ
Event in Africa is happening on November 5, 2022 at the Silver Star Tower with
performances from Stonebwoy, Andy Dosty, Obaapa Christy, DJ Azonto,

Leading the pack this year
is DJ Vyrusky with seven nods, including the Best DJ of the Year prize,
which he won last year. This also marks his fifth consecutive nomination in the
coveted category. DJ Mic Smith follows with six nods, while DJ Sly
scored four nods.
