#SaveGhanaFootball: Supporters Demand Reforms After Black Stars' AFCON Fiasco

A group of senior sports journalists staged a #SaveGhanaFootball demonstration in Accra yesterday to protest against the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The demonstration was triggered by the dismal performance of the Black Stars, Ghana's national football team, at the AFCON 2023 tournament in Cote d’Ivoire, where they failed to advance beyond the group stage.
The demonstrators started from the Obra Spot and marched through the main streets of Accra, ending at the Independence Square. There, they handed over a petition to officials from the GFA, the Sports Ministry, Parliament, and the Office of the President, calling for urgent reforms in Ghana's football system to restore the glory of the nation's football.
Meanwhile, Kurt Okraku, the President of the GFA, has expressed his ambition to win the FIFA World Cup and the AFCON for Ghana. He spoke to the media in Kumasi today, following the criticism of the Black Stars' performance at the AFCON 2023. He said he is determined to make the Black Stars victorious at the AFCON and the World Cup under his leadership as the GFA boss.
