Social media trolling has become a disturbingly common occurrence among netizens, who frequently misuse the concept of freedom of speech to victimize both innocent individuals and celebrities seeking to express themselves or enjoy a lighthearted moment.
A recent example of this is the case of celebrated singer, Wiyaala, whose fashion choice at a beach in Takoradi caused a heated debate and provoked widespread condemnation, with many criticizing her clothing as inappropriate and brand her as indecent.
Undeterred, the African Lioness promptly defended herself on Facebook, sending a stern warning: "I'll wear whatever I like at the beach, river, or pool. Don't even dare!!"
So I ask, was she supposed to wear Fugu Smock to the beach? Is the prevalence of social media trolling a reflection of our society's diminishing sense of empathy and respect for others?
