TikTok Music Removal Sparks Dispute: Stonebwoy, Among Other Big Musicians at the Center of UMG-TikTok Negotiations

Ghanaian music sensation Stonebwoy, along with notable artists such as Taylor Swift, Drake, and Olivia Rodrigo, could see their music removed from TikTok unless a resolution is reached with Universal Music Group (UMG) by the deadline of Wednesday, January 31, 2024.

Stonebwoy, signed under UMG's Def Jam Recordings label division, may be impacted, with UMG attributing the potential removal to insufficient compensation for artists and songwriters.

TikTok, in response, has accused UMG of prioritizing greed over artists' interests, emphasizing its role as a platform fostering artist discovery and growth. Stonebwoy introduced "Therapy" as his inaugural single under Def Jam after joining the label in 2022.
