Boomplay, a music streaming service focused on African audiences, has recognized Black Sherif by presenting him with a plaque in acknowledgement of his remarkable achievement of accumulating 300 million streams on their platform. This milestone sets a new record for the highest number of streams by a Ghanaian artist. Black Sherif attained this milestone with his inaugural album "The Villain I Never Was," which was released in October 2022. This album now holds the distinction of being the most streamed Ghanaian album on Boomplay. Notably, Black Sherif had already surpassed the 100 million streams mark on Boomplay in September 2022.
Expressing his gratitude, Black Sherif remarked, "The achievement is the result of collective efforts, and I am immensely thankful to all of you for your support, enthusiasm, and engagement with my music. This recognition means a lot to me. I used to create music without knowing what its outcome would be. Transitioning from that to receiving accolades and now being honored with this new plaque is truly astonishing. I hold a deep affection and appreciation for my fans, who have stood by me and my creative expressions. This accomplishment is dedicated to them. I also extend my thanks to Boomplay for their ongoing support throughout my journey."
Paul Azumah-Ayitey, Boomplay's communications and public relations manager, emphasized, "Playing a pivotal role in Black Sherif's emergence and subsequent achievements, Boomplay takes immense pride in his accomplishments and the continual breakthroughs he achieves. His rapid ascent has been nothing short of remarkable, showcasing his exceptional talent and potential."
Azumah-Ayitey further emphasized Boomplay's dedication to offering a conducive platform for African artists to unlock their potential and expand their audience base. The company is committed to standing by these artists and commemorating each significant milestone on their artistic journey.
