Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Black Sherif, Shatta Wale, R2Bees Among Others Deserve Diplomatic Passports - Former French Ambassador Anne Sophie Avé

Former French Ambassador Anne Sophie Avé, also known as Akosua, has urged the Government of Ghana to grant diplomatic status to a select group of Ghanaian musicians for their exceptional representation of the country on the global stage.

In a Tweet on Sunday, July 30, 2033, Anne Sophie Avé highlighted five prominent Ghanaian artists, each with their own unique style and talent, who have been remarkably elevating Ghana’s reputation on the international platform.

The artists mentioned are Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Black Sherif, Shatta Wale, and R2Bees. The highly accomplished diplomat proposed that these talented musicians be awarded diplomatic passports as a recognition of their invaluable contributions in promoting Ghana's image worldwide.

Notably, Anne Sophie Avé played a crucial role in organizing the 'Accra In Paris' concert in 2022, which showcased Ghanaian musical talent in the heart of France. The event served as a vibrant celebration of Ghanaian music, art, and heritage, bringing together renowned musicians, including Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, and Kwabena Kwabena, among others.

Anne Sophie Avé's call aligns with the requests made by various musicians, including Sarkodie, who have appealed to the government to facilitate diplomatic visas for artists due to the positive impact they have on projecting Ghana's identity abroad.

Visa-related challenges can sometimes hinder artists, especially those from Africa and other developing nations, from participating in international performances. A 2022 UNESCO study on Diversity of Cultural Expressions revealed that artists from these regions often encounter visa-related obstacles, leading to show cancellations or postponements.

Such issues may stem from bureaucratic processes, documentation requirements, or unforeseen circumstances.

While the proposal to grant diplomatic passports appears to be a lighthearted acknowledgment of their role as cultural ambassadors, it underscores the significant influence that artists hold in promoting a nation's identity and addressing visa-related challenges that may affect their international performances.
