David Kojo Kyei famously known as Kaywa, a well-known music producer, sound engineer, and CEO of the Highly Spiritual record label, has decided to place his former signees' fate in the hands of God after they abandoned him despite his substantial investments in their careers, which played a significant role in their rise to fame.
Artists such as Kurl Songx, Yaw Berk, Krymi, Keche, and others were previously under contract with the Highly Spiritual record label. More recently, musicians Lasmid and Mr Drew also chose to part ways with the label. For record labels, it can be extremely difficult to dedicate time, money, and effort into nurturing artists, only to have them sever ties just as they begin to gain popularity and generate income.
While some artists opt for independence, others compound the pain by leaving for wealthier and larger record labels, leaving their previous label behind. In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, Kaywa, revealed that he would rather entrust his former artists to God than curse them or speak negatively about them.
“I know how painful it can be to invest in new artistes only for
them to leave when they reach their peak but that is life. If I should consider
all these, I would not sign on any artiste again but one thing I tell myself is
that I am building national assets.
“Everyone knows the role I played in the lives of all the artistes who left my record label. The little impact I made in their careers is enough joy for me and if they become like the Sarkodies, Shatta Wales and Stonebwoys, I will take the credit for that. Dr Duncan might not be very wealthy but everyone knows what he did for Sarkodie”. He said.

Kaywa discussed the difficulties associated with signing artists, particularly the problem of poaching, where individuals or other record labels entice artists with attractive offers to leave their current label. He expressed his disappointment in such practices and urged poachers to collaborate with original record labels rather than approaching artists through unauthorized means.
When asked about the possibility of working with his former artists if they were to return, Kaywa clarified that it would not be feasible. He explained that at Highly Spiritual record label, their policy dictates that once an artist departs, there is no option for a comeback. While they can maintain a positive relationship, rejoining the label is not on the table.
Despite the challenges faced due to artists leaving, Kaywa remains dedicated to his work. He is focused on nurturing new talent and making a long-lasting impact on the music industry.
