8th EMY Africa Awards Nominations Out

The organizers of the annual EMY Africa Awards have disclosed the nominations for the competitive categories, which are determined by public voting, for the prestigious 8th edition of the event. The ceremony is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 14th October 2023, in Accra, Ghana, and attendees are expected to adhere to a black-tie dress code. The nomination announcement was made during a live broadcast on Joy Prime TV and Joy FM, as well as a live stream on YouTube through the EMY Africa network. The hosts for the announcement were Adjetey Anang, a two-time EMY Africa Awards honoree and actor, along with Sika Osei, a TV host and actress.

The competitive awards include five categories: Man of the Year - Music, Discovery of the Year, Actor of the Year, Man of the Year - Sport, and Designer of the Year. 

For the Man of the Year - Music category, the nominees are Black Sheriif, Camidoh, Kidi, King Promise, and Stonebwoy. 

The Actor of the Year category includes nominees Adjetey Annang, Tobi Bakre, Bill Asamoah, Anthony Woode, and Chidi Mokome. 

The Designer of the Year nominees are JayRay Ghartey (JayRay Fashion), Andrew Mackenzie (Jesu Segun London), Elikem Kumordzie (Elikem the Tailor), Free the Youth, and Kenneth Tetteh. 

In the Man of the Year - Sports category, the nominees are Joseph Paul Amoah, Benjamin Azamati, Mohammed Kudus, and Abraham Mensah.

The Discovery of the Year category includes Manuel Koranteng, Paul Ninson, Perez Musik, and Mohammed Kudus as the nominees.

The main awards event will also feature honorary awards in various categories, such as Man of the Year, Woman of the Year, Magnate Award, Humanitarian Award, Young Achiever Award, Lifetime Achievement Award, Diasporan Award, Continental Icon Award, Technology Award, Woman of the Year, Guardian Award, Health Award, and Agriculture Award.

Kojo Soboh, the Founder and Executive Director of EMY Africa, announced that the organization will hold a soirée in Lagos, Nigeria, in August, as part of the pre-award activities for this year.

The EMY Africa Awards is an esteemed event that celebrates outstanding gentlemen in diverse fields who are making a positive impact on society. The event also acknowledges the contributions of women who have positively influenced society. 

In the past, the awards have successfully brought together distinguished men and women from Ghana and around the world to be recognized for their accomplishments in their respective fields. Previous recipients of the EMY Africa Awards include notable individuals such as ex-President of Ghana, John Agyekum Kufuor, Togbe Afede XIV, His Eminence Sheikh Dr Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, Sir Sam Jonah, Ernest Ofori Sarpong, Alex Dadey, Kwame Bamfo, Abedi Pele, Azumah Nelson, Boris Kodjoe, Dr Akinwumi A. Adesina, Tony Elumelo, Adebola Williams, Lanre Olusola, Michael Collins Ajereh (Don Jazzy), Ayo Animashaun, and impactful women such as Marufatu Abiola Bawuah, Ellen Hagan, Patricia Obo-Nai, and Prof. Elsie Effah Kaufmann. 

Last year, the EMY Africa Awards honored the esteemed businessman and philanthropist, Ibrahim Mahama, as the Man of the Year.
